Mazatlán is located in the Mexican Pacific, and curiously, it was not considered an important tourism destination because of strong industrial and agricultural activity.  Then, in 1950, the people of Mazatlán realized that the miles and miles of splendid beaches had great potential.  Initially, Mazatlán was no more than a favorite spot for American and Canadian fishermen, but it soon grew to the great tourist spot we know today.  Nowadays, Mazatlán offers a huge variety of activities and services that can be enjoyed against the backdrop of beautiful beaches and a rich cultural heritage.

Mazatlán is also known for being the largest Mexican harbor on the Pacific side which creates an interesting duality.  The city is divided into two areas, the “Zona Dorada” (the Golden Zone) and “El Centro” (the Center).  These two areas make up the two poles of Mazatlán and are connected by a majestic 17 kilometer jetty, known as the “Avenida del Mar” (Sea’s Avenue).  Most of the hotels, tourist services and restaurants are located in the Golden Zone.  At night, the Golden Zone is the place to be, with a variety of discos, night clubs and bars.

In contrast to the Golden Zone’s endless nightlife, Mazatlán also offers wonderful cultural attractions including the Cathedral, the Market, the Angela Peralta Theater, and the Museum.
